Hey all.. '99f350-7.3 ltr. running down the road fine and then dashboards goes out.all gauges gone. then ac motor running slower, tranny acting up. The truck made a few stops at some lights. Had trouble accelerating.
Then truck shuts down. No engine, no brakes , no power steering.(of course, no motor, no functions) But why shut a gradual meltdown? And what gave out?
prolly alternator! can you restart it? jump start it, unhook the starting vehicle, if it runs on its own take off the positive cable of battery and if it shuts of its more than likely alternator. it was prolly running on battery power so as it was draining it it would shut off some systems. just a guess
Load test batt's to confirm they're dead... that would have me looking at the charging system. Kinda suspicious that you lost guages first tho. Some of my guages come alive before I crank the eng. (fuel, voltage, and maybe temp, don't remember). I have seen some non-essential systems on big rigs (Freightliner) disabled when voltage drops below a certain setting, tho (usually lights).
