I have never had a Cam sensor go bad, but I do have an extra, justincase!

Turbo lag refers to the time it takes the turbo to spool up and create boost. Some take longer than others depending on setup. Lag should not be a problem on your truck.

Turbo surge is when the air flow in the turbo gets out of wack. Ths is just a turbo efficiency thing. It is common in the later modle trucks when under load. You should not have a problem with this either.

the cam sensor maybe the same for all years. I say this because the cam sensor is on all powerstrokes with a 7.3L I wouldn't be surprise if they are all the same. A cam sensor is a cam sensor just like a duck is a duck.

I'll be interested in seeing the input on this one. I've read a lot of opinions on the CPS so far on here. One said that 96 back used shims that aren't needed any more, another said 97 up used a different material in the pins and there could be a corrosion problem if you mismatch years. One said the CPS from a dt466 will work but it retards timing a bit. I do know there are different part numbers for 97 up on these.
