MD Towing laws and Regs
I keep reading all these post of these guys weighing out at 30,000lbs and up on the scales and cant figure out how there not getting busted. I mainly tow here on the eastershore of MD. I have a class C license and understand that that as long as my combined weight of truck and trailer is under 26,000lbs im safe with my license. However how does this work with my truck. I tow all for my self not commercially like landscapers. I believe that if i had a business and towed over 10,000 combined weight I need a DOT number right? But as for my truck it is rated to tow 10,000. I rarely go over but occasionally I do. What happens if I go over that amount but my trailer is rated for more? and I got pulled over by DOT. Next question what happens if my trailer is rated for 10,000 and im over that weight rating? Sorry about this being so long. Im just trying to get clear on the the Laws in md about weight.
