Killed a Vette! Kind of....

Well I was helping a buddy move today. We stopped off at a sports bar after for some grub. As we were leaving I noticed an orange vette (C5 body style) parked at the end of the lot, next to a 2002ish VW jetta GLI (actually kind of nice looking... for a VW) Well the owners were outside their cars talking. As I went by I couldn't resist putting out a little coal... I couldn't help it! So as I waited to turn out of the parking lot both of them pulled up behind me turning the same direction. We both got on the road and immediately cut all the way to the left to "U" turn on the road to get going the other direction. Mind you I was pulling an empty two place sled trailer as well at this point, and it was raining out. As soon as I got around the corner I clicked her in 4x4 and romped on it! The vette came around the corner sideways and stayed right behind me the whole way and I layed the best and longest line of black smoke I have yet, and it just plastered the vette. The VW? Yeah I think he was back there somewhere... We came up to the next light and the vette was revving his engine and we were just laughing because we were just playing with each other. He obviously had the power advantage, but I had the traction. We messed around the next few lights and he didn't pull on me at all granted he obviously wasn't getting traction, but laying that coal on him for a good 1/8mile was fun as he!!

Even better news... I got home and my new ID xtreme Race tune was waiting in my inbox...

I cant wait to go back and run my 1/4 mile time again, against my buddies tuned VW GTI. I'm gonna get him this time darn it! Even though he cheats...

Well with that logic, it'd be 3 points for waxing a cavalier... somehow I dont think a C5 falls in the same category...

Tune's in. I'm taking the swampers off for this run and putting the stockers back on. I want to beat him good. I still dont think I'd touch the vette though on dry pavement haha

Ok even though this has nothing to do with the vette story I feel I should explain my buddies situation with his VW GTI. His car is quick. I'll give him that. It has virtually NO turbo lag whatsoever. We raced once before from rolling starts and he demolishes me. Instant spool up. He would honk 3 times and we'd go. I got it so I would romp on it on honk number 1, and he'd still outspool me...

Anyways, he picked up a passport escort GT2 or something like that, and it records HP and 1/4 mile times and all that, based on your weight and a built in accelerometer. When I ran my 1/4 mile time, he was riding with me, I only had my Xtreme street at the time, not the race tune, and my 34" super swampers on. I ran a 14.2 consistently. He runs his car a week after, no passengers, stock 18" wheels with sticky tires, and he is tuned. Cranking about 300 ftlbs now. He runs a 14 flat, and starts bragging how he beat me. I told him we're running it again, and I got something for him this time. He starts telling me he's only going to get faster with the warmer weather cause he's going to have more traction. So I got the race tune loaded, and I'm going to have the stock rubber tossed back on. I cant wait for the outcome this time... I will be sure to post back here when I get that done...

I will say I already have a faster 0-60 time than him, due to the 4x4 launch. Just need a little more go. We are both 100% stock, other than tuners, and I have larger(heavier) tires and a full toolbox.
