I got killed by a LEO yesterday

Did a slight....okay, massive burnout leaving the intersection. Nice fat $250 ticket to pay for now. Good thing I hadn't retracted head from rear yet.

Wasn't aware that a burnout is a Felony though...at least that's what the nice policeman said.

Y'all have fun in here. Hope some people don't repeat my mistake. I thought when I sold my Mustang that I'd quit doing stupid stuff

Did he get you for "exhibition of speed" or reckless driving or something else?

2 different tickets

Speeding (even though he didn't clock me...said the wheel spin from burnout was sufficient for him)

Unsafe lane change (was a right hand turn, and then burn)

I debated fighting the tickets, but if the part about a felony is true, I'd rather pay $250 vice getting a more serious charge

What are you talking about. Traffic citations are usually infractions. Felonies are crimes that can result in jail time over 1 year. You weren't charged with a felony.

I know I wasn't.

I was given 2 tickets instead. The Police officer informed me that I had committed a felony in the state of Hawaii and he was using his discretion to give me those tickets in lieu of arrest and processing.

Not sure how true it is. I did do the crime, so I'm not overly broken up about being caught. I'm mainly mad about the $$$$ aspect.

In early 2000's, Oahu had a huge issue with street racing. They passed some pretty tough laws to crack down on people doing stupid stuff. I can't find any proof for or against what the LEO said, but I'm leaning towards believing him. I'm Navy and I've had junior sailors get Felony charges brought against them before out her for excessive speeding.

I'd still have to fight the speeding ticket. The speedo said 75, but the GPS only read 15MPH!!! Not a LEO, but am willing to bet a burnout does not constitute a felony nor a speeding ticket. Reckless/careless, or maybe accelerating with excessive speed, but not speeding.

Hit me with the consequences of my actions, I get it, but don't make things up to hit me with. Make the punishment fit the "crime".

yeah, most def fight the speeding ticket, go to court man, he has to have proof to write that one, he has none, speeding, do not think so, maybe exhibition of speed, but thats it, work with Hawaiian, he said nope, he goes home to visit every year, said BS. Worst case scenario at court is have to pay the tickets as is, better case only pay the 1 which really sounds like what will happen.

my dad got a "excessive acceleration" ticket and the cop feared for his life is what the ticket said in my 6.0 and no burnout so it happens everywhere lol

I'd go to court and at least try to get the amounts lowered. They have already issued you the tickets so the WORST thing they can do is make you pay them. Don't worry about getting charged with something worse because its not possible at this point.

Keep us posted. Good luck!
