IDI vs. Cummins

Since Brad talked about dropping chains, I figured I could here too. Granted, it's not about my own truck, but I have a question.

A friend of a friend has a 2500 12-valve Cummins and he hitched up to a fully stock IDI and got his rear end handed to him. Embarrassing to a guy who rarely loses these kinds of competitions.

I know Cummins builds a strong engine, and the IDI is a good engine too, but they usually have less power than a Cummins. Is it possible the gearings were different, leading to the Cummins losing? I ask also because the top contender in my truck choices has an IDI

More likely the cummins had bad tires.

At the end of the day everything is pointless besides driving from point A to B. I would never EVER hook up. I do drag race (and always have). That is pointless too. But I find it fun!

Its all about gearing, weight, chain angle, and traction. You could have a 10hp Honda motor and with enough gears pull just about anything.
