7.3 Kills 96 Chevy

Well, Me and a buddy comin back from a bonfire when a 96? Chevy 1500 Z71 pulls up next to my on the highway. Had some dual exhaust that was cackling whenever he pulled up next to me. We were goin about 60~ when he started honkin, so i knew he wanted to race. I turned the chip up to 120r, honked 3 times, and took off. Pulled away from him about 2 lengths, then started to slow down. Come to a red light, and he rolls his window down and the guy says to do a race from dead stop to a house ahead. I tried to do a boosted launch off the start, but it was wayyy to wet to do that. I sat there and spun in 1st, let off and shifted, then gunned it and got sideways again, then just hammered it and barely got him by half a length. Not really exiting, but its a kill.

I've had several Z's with the 5.7's and 5.3's, they sound good and will run with the Ford gasser's, but won't touch these diesel's. How did I ever live without one!?! BTW, those Vortec engines wouldn't pull a greasy string outta a cat's azz.

Yea, 5.7's really dont have that much power. And 5.3's are good solid motors. If it wasn't wet out that night i could have really pulled away with a good launch

My old 97 f250 reg cab 7.3 lifted 4" with 35's and 3.55 gears had 210k on stock auto tranny that didn't shift right and was bout to explode killed many half ton chevy's who thought they were hot stuff. The only mods it had were intake, exhaust and edge 80hp tune.
