Red face New Respect for the 7.3

Well all good things must come to an end as I just had my first loss, or I should say my azz handed to me, in the 6.0 to another diesel yesterday on the way home from work, but at aleast it was a Powerstroke.

I was sitting first in line at a stop light, when the light was turning yellow for cross traffic I heard a diesel getting on it real hard to make the light. I look over and sure enough its was a lifted, white 2001-02 crew cab 7.3 with duals out the back just POURING out black smoke, I mean it was enough for me to actually say "Jesus!!!!".........

My light turned green and off I went to try to run him down, didn't catch up to him till the freeway. Rolled up next to him and looked over and he was just staring straight ahead. So I rolled up a head of him to blow some smoke on him, nothing......after a while I gave up and just went about my way, but I noticed he was keeping up....I like to use Harvey Keitel's line from Pulp Fiction when I describe my driving..... "I drive fast, real f***ing fast!" so I could tell he was trying to keep up with me........

I was coming up on my exit with ol boy still behind me. I moved over to the right lane and sure enough, here comes screaming past, again with black smoke just COVERING the highway, it was then I knew would have my hands full, but thought what the hell.......so I rolled into it and caught him, he moved over to the right lane and waved me up next to him, got next to him and he was telling me to slow down, which I didn't want to do cuz I wanted to be in OD, roll in to it and hammer it, but I figured I'd try it his way, so we slowed to about 45, I think, I was more concerned about being lined up with him, and he gave a real quick 3 honk and took off, my truck down shifted hard and then up shifted, he pulled on me by about half a length, we stayed like that till about 75-80 and then it was like he hit the giggle juice cuz he was just GONE!!!!! I was very impressed none the less . I think I could have gotten him in the 1/8 or maybe even the 1/4, but thats about it cuz he would be coming on strong on the top end............so I take that loss with a smile

I have a KEM custom tuned SCT and FICM, AFE instake, CFM small mouth intake elbow, Zoodad mod, 5" exhaust, Bulletproof's EGR delete and new oil cooler......like I said, I've raced plenty of 7.3's in my time and this was no simple, bolt-ons only 7.3........once we 80ish, it was like his turbo lit and he was just gone

I am in a toss-up with what to do with my electronics.
My FICM is heading out the door.
I drive a stick shift and want the smoothest throttle response, any suggestions?
I've had DP tunes and they were smooooth. I'm running Innovative and don't care for it at all.
58v from Swamps, PHP flashed, and gear-head tunes was my next route but am unsure

Well if you want smooooth and you have good luck with DP, then no sense in changing it up. I'll always be partial to KEM, because we a long history going back to my first 6.4. Is that all you're looking for it smoothness and good power, or what exactly are you looking for?
