Duramax gets killed...what's new?

I was driving down the interstate today in the big truck and I looked in my mirror and seen a black 2500 duramax with stacks flying up beside me...well i'm still lookin in my mirror at the duramax when I start seeing smoke behind my trailer, then sure enough...an old (maybe '97) PSD comes out from behind me, smokin like an ol' coal train...well they both pass me doing at least 95-100 MPH...after they get passed me back into two lanes...the PSD blows passed the duramax for about 100 feet the slows down in front of him...the duramax switches lanes and the Ford just followed in front of him from lane to lane blowing smoke all over him...haha...it was great...I dunno what that old Ford had done to it but it smoked more than any truck i've ever seen (besides pulling trucks)...especially when he was unloaded just going down the interstate

Just thought i'd share that, because I was impressed by that Ford...it kinda made the Pete' a little jealous for a while there ...

It really never smokes too much...i've seen him hook at a few fairs before and he still don't smoke much when he's hooked up to the sled...but I will say that he pulls the sled pretty good...it's quiet and doesn't smoke, but it's got some power

Here is a "got killed" story.

I was driving up a steep grade (HWY 50 to Cameron Park) for you N. Cali strokers! A Duramax (mid 2000's) came up on me hard, I moved over to let him get next to me then floored it. I stayed plastered to his Passanger side door for about 200 yds, then he just walked away from me FAST like I ran out of fuel! I looked down and we were going over 100mph, but he just kept pulling away HARD. His truck bed was empty, mine was empty, but he was gone. I have an intake, exaust, zoodad mod, and 3 stage chip (on stage 3). What puzzled me was I was blowin' HEAVY smoke, and he was clean! Best I could figure is I was limited by the 4:10 gears in the rear end. BUT HE SURE PULLED ON ME! It made me wonder what he was packin'. He pulled way to hard to be stock, but was blowin' NO SMOKE.
What do you Duramaxer's think?

your 4:10's probably held you back, as far as smoke, I have tunes in EFI that pull hard and dont smoke and also some tunes that will clear an intersection with smoke, But my guess is that he was spraying. I had something similar happen to me a few years ago, was next to a Duramax at a light "on the phone" and looked up the light was green and the other truck was pulling hard away, very little smoke, loud exhaust though, found out later he was spraying.

I am curious about the Ford's, theres a late model Ford running around town that smokes like a freighttrain, I never have gotten to line up next to him, but we pass a lot in traffic and blow smoke back & forth, what would make a stock looking truck smoke like that, it even looks like he has a stock exhaust pipe. Really, I would peg him as a sleeper, I bet he could rip several unsuspecting victims.
