The other thing you could use if you are afraid of ether is gasoline. It's not as harsh as ether, and it isn't as explosive, so your engine will run better on it. It doesn't tend to burn glow plugs as much either.

Soak a rag with gasoline, and hold it up to the intake. Have some one crank it, and it will fire and run on gasoline vapors. You will have to throttle it with the rag closer or further from the intake. Just give it enough to make an idle speed.

That is how I get trucks started after I do injectors, or HPOP or anything like that..
Thats a good idea and I may have to try it in the future.

Yep no trouble at all. Changing the oil on these is a night mare if you cant get them in the air!

I dont know anyone that has one lol, I help my buddy at his shop but I havent personally helped him with any. I have changed a few belts and stuff...

since you got it started i guess you dont need any more suggestions!

i change roughly 2 fuel filters a month on our Duramaxs so i have done it a few times and the best way to do it is,for starters change the fuel filter and then when you prime it you'll notice in front of the alternator there is fuel line bleeder after the fuel filter housing with a black plastic cap thats screwed on it(looks very similar to a AC bleeder).as you manualy pump it up with the pump on the filter housing use a small screw driver and release the pressure and your good to go in seconds!

Completely off topic, but related to this suggestion, we had an E99 7.3 and that was suggested to me, we had the intake piping removed and I was holding the rag over the intake tube after the intercooler, frikkin truck barked back and caught me and the truck on fire! No damages, but it was kinda funny afterward! (just remember to be careful)
