7.3L excursion

thank you for all the information about the 6.0L and the 7.3L engines, saturday i bought the 01 7.3L great truck, ran great on the test drive ,got the keys to take it home and drove .4 miles away from the dealer and it died. would not restart for me but started for the tech.

when we got it to the shop he pulled codes it had two codes for the cps, is this a common part to go bad, should i change it every 80k?

and yes the cps has a tendency to fail, usually at the worst time possible. some people have no problem at all, some like to keep a spare one in the glove box just in case.

Good thing it happened leaving the dealership, hahaha got a new CPS out of the deal.

Welcome to the site, as others have mentioned, the cps may never fail you and then again it may fail you 5 miles from the dealer. You may never know when the cps will fail you. Like others have mentioned some people keep a spare in the glove box just in case. Along with keeping it in the glove box they keep a 10mm socket and rachet in there so they can swap it out.

good idea with the sensor and the tools. too bad i have to wait until tuesday to see the truck. the good side is the dealer will make the 160 mile trip and park it in my driveway. thanks to all for the help, this is a great way to get information and help.

All I can say is dont worry about it.When I bought my truck it ran great for the test drive.I signed all the paperwork and drove it to my credit union to get the check and on the way back it died at a red light in the middle of 5 o clock traffic.Heart went through the floor,luckily it fired right back up and it was just the cps.My truck has 276,000 miles now and it runs great and i would trust it to go anywhere.Good luck and enjoy!
