Hey gang, glad I found this place!
I'm on the board of directors for our SCCA region, Central Carolinas Region, in the Charlotte, NC area.
Web site - CCR-SCCA
We needed a truck to pull our trailer to autocross events and to the hillclimbs we put on a few times each year. Another board member and I took on the task. We decided on a F-250 or F-350, 7.3, 2 wheel drive. Everything we found in Charlotte was beaten up, a 5.4 or 4-wheel drive. The truck just didn't need to be 4-wheel drive as it will be on pavement.
I found a decent 2000 in Hickory, 220,000, super-cab, long bed for $6,000. They had to replace the starter before I could test drive it... we really wanted a crew cab. Came across one in Wilmington (3 hours from Charlotte). It was what we wanted: 1999 F-250, crew-cab, 2-wheel drive, 7.3, automatic trans, long bed, 172,000. We ended up getting it for $6,250, I don't think we did bad... it was owned by an older guy in Wilm, he used it to tow a gooseneck 30-ft camper trailer.
Anyways, here's the truck...
And here's what it'll be towing... 7x14, custom built for us.
I know it's a bit of overkill for just a 7x14, but when its loaded with 300 cones, 12 fire bottles, timing equipment, brooms, helmets... you get the picture. It adds up quickly. And it shouldn't have any trouble going to Banner Elk for the hillclimbs!
The forum has already been a help... I learned about replacing the crappy cup holder. Just have to order the new one now.
If you're wondering about "lagunamiata" its from my autocross car - a 1994 Laguna Blue Mazda Miata. Here's the car on-track at Carolina Motorsports Park.
Quite a change from driving that to the F-250!!
But our dogs fit in the truck better!
Charley - our Great Dane

and Roux - she's a Shar-Pei mix
We bought a Honda Odyssey last year (err, in 2008)... no kids, but we bought a mini-van for our dog!
Thanks all!
