2002 Excursion 7.3L Automatic 2wd

I saw an excursion with 260,000 miles online. The many photos show the truck to be in "like new" condition inside and out. It is very clean. The truck is at a used car dealership. They also sell lots of classic cars as well. I googled them and found they have an A rating at the Better Business Bureau. Anyway, they are over 200 miles away. Asking price is $9999. I want to surprise my wife with this truck for her birthday. The miles are kind of high. I want to make sure the truck is safe. There is a garage that specializes in diesel trucks I can take it to have it inspected but only after I buy it and drive it home. What safety issues could a truck with this many miles have besides ball joints, brakes and tires? She used to have a Suburban and sometimes says how she misses it. She's driving the 2002 Crown Victoria Sport now but I think she would rather have an SUV. We also have three children and take at least one long road trip per year.

I wanted an F350 7.3 for myself but I found a 2001 F350 XL 5.4L gasoline with very low miles(60k) for $10,000 so I'm thinking about getting that for myself. We would still have a 7.3 in the family. lol. It's probably a government fleet vehicle. On the other hand I found another f350 7.3 manual transmission with about 237k miles for $7,000. It has a ball hitch in the bed. I guess I want to get my wife and I trucks for under $10k each. That's the limit of my vehicle buying budget. Maybe that's not realistic for two good diesels unless I have a budget for some maintenance items likely to come up with these higher mileage trucks.

You might try posting in the 7.3 excursion forum. Those guys will know the most about the questions and concerns you may have. Might get a few more views/ guys who know what they are talking about when it comes to the excursions than you will here in the introduction forum.

Good luck!!
