New to PSD and the Forum
I just purchased a 97 Crew Cab Shortbox PSD 180,000 and love the truck and the room. I put a TS 6 Pos chip in and need some recommendations on cold air intake and Exhaust please. Been watching you guys and you are helpful to everyone, knowledgeable, and polite. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the site!!! Congrats on your purchase. I would get a 4" exhaust system and gauges before any seriously hard driving. You will be surprised how fast those EGTs can climb with the TS. Check with any of the sponsors or vendors on this site. They are all good guys and will be glad to help you. I personnally got my mbrp and Quadzilla commander from Larry and Pat at Discount Power Parts. Great guys to work with and will make sure you are satisfied.

go with a tymar for an intake, look around you'll see DIY ones too. And yes get some gauges first!!!! EGT, BOOST, TRANNY (if you have an auto).

Do you guys think I could be doing any damage with only the TS chip so far. Only 1500 miles so far with chip and I don't drive it hard. Can I put it in the Stock mode and not worry until I get gauges and bigger exhaust. Thanks

you should be fine, put it on stock and run it, you should be fine with an ocaasional drive it hard on a milder setting, but with stock intake and exhaust, you will build heat really fast and do some damage. Your chip is adding fuel, without it being able to get air and get rid of it, it will heat fast. A diesel is backwards of a gasser, running a diesel rich will build heat running it lean it will stay cool. (gassers will run cooler if they are rich and run hot if they are lean)

aboardthey diy intake is the cheapest way to go but it also has good filtration and surface heres a link to the mod DIY Intake another cheap fix for the exhaust is to straight pipe it with a cat delete pipe and a muffler delete pipe, but a 4" will do ya the best this write up may help ya out with some of yur questions What to get a chip? Read here first! hope this helps |
