Hello

Possibly in the market for a used crewcab F250 shortbed 4wd PS... not sure if I want to go with a 7.3 or 6.0 so I joined here to learn more about them, the good and bad.

there seems to be a LOT to look through. i just ant some guidelines on the pros and cons of both the 6.0 and the 99+ 7.3.
ive heard horror stories of the 03 6.0s... however i think an 02 or 03 will be more in my comofortable price range.

Unless you can afford an 05 or newer 6.0 then i would probably stick to a 7.3 if you want to be SURE your not getting a lemon 6.0. It was hit and miss with the 03-04 6.0s and of course i didn't realize that untill a year AFTER I bought my 03 6.0 but so far none of the associated issues have happened to me...i'm still waiting for my turbo to go south! 60k miles in mine now so i think I'm in the clear.

Welcome aboard....

Have to agree with Clay on this one... 05 and 06 6.0s are outstanding as a whole... Can't say that with confidence on the 03 and 04s... Not all were bad, they just had the same kind of growing pains that seems to happen now days with new engines...

As well as these diesels hold their resale the 05 and 06 models might still be pricey so a workhorse 7.3 would be an excellent choice....

Ken....

buddy of mine has an 06 6.0... might be an 05, not sure... and hes been dissappointed with it. according to him... he feels its fixing to go anytime now. His previous diesel was a 01 duramax.
My main concern is reliability.

i haven't heard that many dissapointed 06 model owners speaking up so i don't know. I am pleased with the performance of my 03 6.0 and it hasn't left me walking.
The durasmak is a powerhouse however they come with a pair of comfortable sneekers and a dog.
