TommyM

Hi there,

I've been a fringe viewer for awhile and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Tom Mikulski and I live in Henderson, NV. I'm a commercial/industrial electrician currently working as a resident engineer for construction management. Fancy title but I make sure whatever it is works when we are done.

I own a 2005 F350 XLT, quad cab, long bed, 4x4. Modifications include: ICON 4in lift, Donahue racing shocks, dual Fox steering stabilizers, AMP steps, Vision carpeted camper shell. Engine: Banks 6 gun tuner, Banks Technicooler, Banks Ram-Air intake, Banks High-Ram, Banks Monster Exhaust, ARP head studs, Bulletproof EGR and Oil Cooler. Tires: Nitto Dura Grappler 305/70/18. Used to have BFG's but 2 came apart after 20,000 miles.

Main use is pulling my 28ft trailer when I work out of town.

Thanks for letting me hang around on your site.

I doubt if anyone who bought a Ford with the 6.0 knew that they had to spend 10 grand to make it run right. Actually the truck ran great until I was pulling my trailer back home from San Diego. It started spitting coolant, used about 2 gallons. Nursed it home. Truck has 81,000 miles on it and is not abused. I just had the Bulletproof remote filter, oil cooler and EGR cooler installed to end the problem before it caused engine failure. Pricey but not as much as a new engine.

I don't know much about other tuners but I've had no problems with the Banks equipment. Truck has a tun of power, more than you need. I drive around town with it on 2, pull a 10,000lb trailer in 3. From San Diego to Henderson is about 340 miles, without trailer, it gets 16mpg. With the trailer about 13.

What I have on the truck is what Banks recommended including the head studs. If anyone wants to get more HP you can't just bolt on a tuner on this engine. You're asking for trouble and $$$$$$ in repairs.

for instance I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought My 6.0 and it didn't cost 10 g's to make it super dependable like it has been for the last 80,000 miles that I have owned it

We can fix your opinion and your truck

I'm definitely not an expert on the 6.0 by any means. I only speak for myself. I've had this truck since 07. And I did quite a bit of research on the 05 model year before buying a vehicle that cost more than my first house. It now has 81,000 miles on it and has been trouble free until recently.
I have a 3 inch thick binder for all the parts added and research. A lot of good information came from this site.
Some of the parts that were added because I wanted them like the steps, lift kit, Banks package, (recommended by a friend who teaches the mechanics at Ford on the 6.0). The head studs, Bulletproof EGR and oil cooler were done to prevent future problems because of the Banks package and the well known 6.0 issues. All have been professionally installed. I can build gas motors and wrench on hot rods but the diesels are beyond my skill level.
Check my photos under Tom's 2005 F350.
