Hey everybody. About two weeks ago I joined the Diesel club. Picked up a 2010 F 250 Lariat FX4. I had searched around for a while and found that one that I wanted which had only 25k on the clock. Now to the question of the day.

About a week ago, I was going over the service intervals for the truck, pulled the Oasis report to figure out what had been done maintanence wise and was surprised a bit when I pulled the hours the truck had on it...5117 hours. Wow, that is a crap ton of hours based off mileage. So the question I have is, do I treat the truck as a 25k truck or a 150k truck which is really what it is based off the theory; every 1 hour of idle time equates to approx 30 miles of driving?

My concerns lie in the fact that most people perfom maintanence based off of miles, not hours.

Given that the recommended service interval for this truck, due to the DFP, is every 5k for oil and fuel filters. If you do the math based off of miles, oil/filter & fuel filter should have been changed 5 times. Based off of hours it should have been changed 25 times.

Cause for concern?

Welcome to the site. I just checked the hours on my work truck after reading this. I have a 2012 f250 work truck that I run dang near every day. It has 25673 miles,1901 engine hours and 1061 idle hours. And the companie that I work for changes off of miles.
Ya thats a tough question to answer. But Id say the wear of the engine will reflect the hrs on the engine.

How do you isolate the idle hours from the rest? Something you track yourself or computer provided?

On the 2012 it has the little heads up dash display that shows the hours seperated. Not sure if the 2010 does.

Man that is a lot of hours on the engine. I just went out to look at my truck for reference and I have 100989 miles with 2369 hours on her. Your truck as you know has had a lot of idle time. Your question is a really good one but I am not sure how to answer it. I always go by mileage when changing my oil/filters/maintenance and I believe you should probably too. No telling how the previous owner performed maintenance but probably went by miles also and not hours. Great question though.

My other concern is that in Ford's eye's, this truck, by far, qualifies as an excessive idler...wonder how that will factor into the remaining warranty.

I would argue that the warranty sais 3yr/36k miles (I beleive) not 3yr/36kmiles/1500hrs..

Agreed kinnisoj, I have never ever heard of a warranty expiring due to excessive hours.
