First time diesel owner

I picked up this truck on Wednesday of this week. I've been wanting a diesel truck for awhile, and for the last year I've been driving a Nissan Maxima. Every time my parents have came to visit, my Mom always jokes about me giving her my Maxima because she liked the way it that was what I ended up doing....and it gave me a good enough reason to buy a truck

I ended up driving about 3 different trucks, and all had some sort of issue with them that bothered me. The one I really wanted was black but it had oil that looked like it was coming from somewhere around the turbo and a STRONG smell of burning oil coming through the air vents when you stopped at a light. I'm guessing that was oil on the manifold being burned? I don't know. I'm new to diesels so I'm still trying to learn everything. I've put about 350 miles on it since Wednesday and unfortunately the CEL came on last night with P0405 and P0299. Going to pick up a EGR today and see if that fixes it for now.

The truck is 100% stock right now but my goal is to make it a fun daily driver. I already have my Lightning for a weekend toy to play with so I don't want to go TOO crazy with this one. I've got my own tuning software - the SCT Advantage III software which is what my Lightning is tuned with, so that's what I'll eventually get the F250 with hopefully. Still deciding on going with gauges vs something like Edge insight to monitor stuff.
