Thanks Marc for getting my posting privileges squared away, this is my first one, and I want to make it worthwhile...
My signature sums up part of the story, but here's the complete 411.
The '04 Excursion seen here that I'm the new extremely proud owner of has quite a history. It was built on The Learning Channel TV show "Rides" for Orange County Choppers. Funkmaster Flex
and Team Baurtwell
did an outstanding job on the paint/exterior, interior and audio, and couldn't leave well enough alone with the motor either. OCC donated it for a veterans' charity auction, a dealer in PA bought it, showed it for 6 months, and I was the second guy to call on it and the first with the money when they decided to sell it. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
The PSD came with 4 inch full turbo exhaust with a nice 5 inch tip. An AFE Stage I intake (filter only) sits in there now, but that's about to change thanks to Larry and Patrick at Discount Power Parts...
Right now I'm running an SCT XCalibrator 2 with Innovative Diesel Tunes. Right now the Street tune is installed, I got the Xtreme Street on standby and the Tow Brake for trailer duties. I didn't want to get too carried away until I got the Quadzilla Commaner installed either, kinda waiting on the A-pillar mount to make it clean. Bilstein shocks and a BD turbo timer topped off my first DPP shopping spree, plenty more where that came from...
Right now I'm getting the AVIC headunit dialed in with its navigation and an I/R rear view camera and iPod hook-up, along with a XM subscription. Once that's done I'm getting the unbelieveably clean paint job touched up by the guys that painted it so it looks as good as the day it rolled out of the shop and hit the street, the OCC boys did some of their own "customizing".
I have an AiRaid intake going in at the same time as the Commander and turbo timer, and I'm gonna try to get some before and after dyno runs. I'm hoping to break 400 HP and 700 torque with the Xtreme Street tune. Judging from these results
, I should be right about there!
A few more details, Hellwig front and rear sway bars and an Arnott self-levelling rear air suspension should finish off the suspension nicely, along with a brake upgrade to help with the towing (still haven't decided that yet, rotors and pads more likely than a big brake kit, just which ones). That should about do it...
It's first dealer service went very well. Clean OASIS and service history, and the $600 30K service was only about $250 because that's all it needed. Looks like I found a nice honest dealer. They also replaced the four front ball joints under the factory warranty, and I have a Ford ESP (Premium Care) plan to take care of me for the long haul.
First diesel, couldn't be happier, and considering that I paid the same for this that another local dealer wanted for a '03, and $4K less than another wanted for an '04 Limited, I think I did pretty well.
Really looking forward to participating here on the forum, just remember I know 'bout Jack and crap about diesels, and Jack just left town. I'm learning...
P.S. Ricers suck!
