New Excursion owner

Hi everyone!

I just bought my 2005 Excursion Limited a week ago. We did have a Dodge Ram 1500 for a couple years when it was just me and my wife, but then we got a dog and then had a baby and then got another dog. Needless to say, we ran out of room in the truck pretty quick when we would go camping. The Excursion is the answer to all of our space and comfort issues. So far I love this truck and I'm looking foward to turning to the Powerstroke forums for answers to any questions that come up.

After I bought it I went to get new Cooper Discoverer AT3's put on it as well as an oil change and got new fuel filters. I had the shop check over the entire truck and they said it looks to be in great shape. Yesterday I took my trailer for a test pull before our trip to Myrtle Beach this coming weekend. On the way home the engine light came on. I took it to O'reilly and it came up with the P0401 code which is restricted flow thru the EGR valve. Between looking thru the forums and watching some videos on Youtube I know that the EGR vavle is common issue on these engines. I plan on pulling it out after work today to clean it up and maybe change the O rings. I'm hoping that the EGR valve just needs a good cleaning and that I don't need to replace the EGR cooler.

Anyways, I will continue to browse thru the forums and learn as much as I can. I haven't owned a diesel before so my knowledge is limited, but growing. Thanks again to all the knowledgeable people on this forum. This is an outstanding resource for us newbies!

I'm in the Army stationed at Fort Gordon near Augusta.

Last night I pulled the EGR valve and cleaned it up good, put new o-rings and a gasket on it. Took it to O'Reilly and got the code reset. So far so good because the light hasn't come back on.

Cool. I was born and raised across the river east of Aiken, SC in Williston. I don't have any family there now. I am doing design work on an industrial project in Graniteville over in the "valley". Is this your first summer in Augusta? Hottest dang place in the world!
