Good Morning, live in mid-state New York. 1st time diesel owner - used to drive them a lot back in my youth and when I found this '02 7.3L Excursion in Januanry I fell in love with that diesel sound all over again. This vehicle will be used primarily for long family roadtrips, towing the boat and snowmobiles.
It had 117K when I bought it, body was in great shape for truck that has lived in northeast - hardly any rust. It needed some mechanical work to get it where I wanted, I was able to get rid of a serious vibration by having the drive shaft rebuilt, fixed everything except a slow leak from behind the HPOP and the power steering box.
With 2 road trips as a baseline I averaged 12 mpg towing a fully loaded 3 place steel snowmobile trailer and 17.5 mpg @ 65 mph highway. With eye on improving fuel economy I have installed an aFe Stage 2 cold air intake, MBRP 4" exhaust and Edge programmer. No road trips yet to gauge milage results but responsiveness is night and day from factory stock.
Looking forward to the shared learnings and advice I will find on the site. Happy Easter.
