Afternoon everyone, my name is Mel and I'm an al... oh wait, wrong group
Found PS.org while searching the internet looking for a how-to on changing my CPS, and thought I might hang around a while.
My vehicle is pretty plain-jane, an '01 E-350 7.3PS windowless extended van I'd ordered new to replace the tired old '78 C-10 Chevy phone company auction van I'd beaten to death over the years in the Plumbing Heating and Cooling trade. Removed the muffler with only about 20 miles on, and so far that's all I've done to help it breathe. Well, I did remove that in-the-way resonance chamber on the intake ducting to make it easier to replace either the fuel filter or the GPR (which by the by is a real fun job on a van in the middle of winter, outside, all three times...).
My van came with the HPI-1 computer. And as the van isn't intercooled, I'm not sure what performance upgrades I can get away with - IF I could find anyone that marketed to the Van platform. Seems you F-series and Excursion guys get to have all the fun!
With about 97,000 miles on it, the only
high-dollar out-of-pocket repairs so far are a bad tranny at 67,000 and a delaminated fuel tank which pretty much fouled up the rest of the fuel system over time. Both of which were out of warranty and really chapped my ***.
On my third set of ball joints, can't keep an alignment to save my life, and am running air bags at each corner because regardless of what Ford tells me I can't believe my van came with one-ton suspension. Come to think of it, my '78 C-10 rode a lot stiffer than this one and it was only a half ton.
Outside of the van, I'm just a regular working class stiff come in out of the cold. Still keep active in the trade part-time, but am now serving a sentence as the Facilities Manager for a small publicly owned Bio-Pharma R&D lab here in Western CT.
My lovely Bride and I are both Veterans of the US Armed Forces, she USAF and I the ARMY. Our only child, an 18 year old son leaves in February for the Air Force himself. Damn proud of him.
Mebbe it's time to convert the van over to a love machine...
What am I thinking? Too old, too tired.
A long-time Shovelhead solo rider ('79 FXEF Fat Bob), I gave it a little company last Summer. Picked up a Touring bike ('94 FLHTC Full Dresser) to take my Bride along now that she is entering menopause and her baby is leaving the nest. Gotta keep her busy, you guys in the same boat no doubt know what I'm talking about.
Well, that's about it. Looking forward to learning a little more about my Van, and in the process meeting a few people along the way.
Thanks for having me
