New member with a new F250 6.4

Hello all! I'm Steve. I just bought a 2008 F-250 XTL crew cab 4x4 with 6.4L turbo diesel. It came with an SCT Livewire chip as well as an aftermarket intake. Previous owner must have had some knowledge (or at least more than me) of trucks. I am not a mechanic or anywhere close. However, getting 12 mpgs is not working for me. I ordered a microchip FLASPAQ yesterday which will be here tomorrow, but I would like to know if my Livewire works (may use it or sell). When I plug it into the truck or computer, all it says is "Detecting memory..." not sure what needs to be done or what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions on where to begin troubleshooting? Thanks!!!
