First FORD ever! 2001 7.3 78000 miles (pics)
Hello all from Oregon (the great pacific northwest)
Been driving GMC's over 30 years, and this is not only my first Ford, but first diesel. I knew I wanted a low mileage 7.3 from all I have read over the years in the thinking about going to diesel. Well.. Friday we found the truck, and today it's ours!! It drives like a new truck. We pull a 15k 5th wheel as our 2nd home. I can't wait to see how this things tows, over our (traded in) GMC 454 gaser. I know NOTHING about diesels, and this truck has a banks brake system on it. I'm sure my first question is going to be.. "what it for"? There is an on off switch on the dash for it, and some gauges. Please feel free to give this newbie any insite, or helpful ideas. Tomorrow I'm going to change the oil and I read the Shell Rotella T 15W40 is the best to use.. (I have no idea what the dealership, or other owner had put in it. If some one knows a better oil. EDIT.. they gave us a 36k 3 yr everything warranty for $2495.. I thought it was a good idea so bought it with the truck. ![]()

Congrats. I've noticed that Oregon has the nicest, lowest mileage, lowest priced 7.3s I have found. And I look a lot!!!! Sadly, I live in Florida. 😤

Thank you Stroker 8, 444 ci and clatterindiesel (Big Danny McBride fan here)
I got a unicorn and feel very lucky. I'm a dually person. (need my training wheels still) I knew I wanted the 7.3 dually 4 door when I made the switch to diesel, so when I found this truck under $20,000 with only 78,000 miles.. I was all over it. First thing I noticed on the way home was the computer reading I was getting 15.9 mpg average (the truck was in Portland, lots of stopping and going traffic).. My GMC gas 454 at best was 10 mpg. Pulling my 5th wheel 7mpg. |
