new guy introduction

Hi,, I'm a newbie on the site. I've owned a 1997 psd since new. Now have 80k on it with several trips to eastern Canada from Colorado. No major problems with it yet. Only minor repairs over the years, cps, glow plug relay, batteries and serpintine belt. No real mods to speak of.

I just retired this summer with 33 years county government service..

I do have one quick question,,,I need to replace a headlight capsule/assembly on the drivers side due to a cracked lens. I've been told I need to drop the front grille in order to do this. I figure for sure the drivers side battery needs to come out to gain access to the rear of the assembly. Dropping the grille seems like over kill. Am I missing something ??

I've searched the library and web and the only thing I can find was one comment saying the grille has to come out, the comment was ref a 94-96 psd. I'm looking for the big picture before I start. I've posted on a couple of other sites with no feed back..

Great site. Great info and pictures......525

If you are changing the whole assembly, I would say that you probably would have to remove the grill but I'm not sure. I'm sure one of the techs on here will have an answer for you soon

Welcome to the ORG.!

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the grill, I haven't done mine yet. It only takes a few seconds to remove, though. The hard part is everything else.

It's been about 3 years since I had to take one out and I did have to remove the grill on my 95, I don't recall for sure but I think there is lower screw or bolt that you can't get to without the grill removed.
