hey all,
I'm not currently a Ford Powerstroke owner, YET

, but I'm researching to see if its the type of vehicle that would "fit the bill" for my needs. There is a locally listed '99 single cab that originally piqued my interest a few weeks ago, and after watching quite a few of Bill Hewitt's videos on general maintenance(I'm 24, and I'd like to do some of my own maintenance if I end up getting a truck) I'm kinda jiving for it.
My primary passion is my photography, so the primary use of the vehicle during the year would be for traveling solo(yes, no g/f or dog

) for 1-2mo at a time, probably during the fall. Weather would range from sunny and dry to wet, damp, and possibly snowfall. Different trip from year to year. I'd be driving it weekly to keep fluids cycled as well, since diesel's don't like to "sit" from what I've read!
I'd greatly appreciate any help that a(or a few) local(s) could lend me in this process. The mechanic I've been going to for years(as has my immediate family) for gas'd vehicle repairs has basically laughed in my face when I told him that I was researching Powerstroke's as an option(he works primarily on foreign cars primarily).
I'm up at the top of the 57 freeway, where it hits the 210, for you locals

.
Looking forward to doing some reading up in the archives, but if anyone local could help me out with what to look(or look out) for, I'd be greatly appreciative.
cheers,
Dan
