Hi everyone, stopping into say hi and introduce myself.
Last month I purchased an 05 6.0L Lariat FX4 w/ 74k miles. I've owned Chevys most of my life and 2 foreigns for a short while so I don't consider myself a Ford guy yet.
I purchased this truck to replace my 08 Silverado 1500 to tow a 5500 lbs dry travel trailer. The Silverado could have handled it but didn't want to load up the trailer and be so close to the max tow rate (6600 lbs).
Did my research about owning a diesel after purchasing and found my way here. Fortunately I learned about the beauty of the 6.0 before it got ugly.
The truck has visually been well taken care of. I got the warranty history on it and there were only 4 entries:
New degas bottle label
Re-calibrated engine control module
Signal light shorted to ground
Complaint about no start but report got cut off and still waiting to get rest of details. Took 11 hours of labor so it must have been a good one...
After reading up here, got a dashboss and found that my ECT/EOT delta runs 20-40* so have been purchasing all the necessities to remedy that. Of course no ones happy to acquire something new and start throwing money at it but I'd rather spend $1,000 now than up to $8,000 later. I also knew I wasn't buying something new so was prepared to spend a little bit.
I've been replacing oil in my truck for the last 4 years but have never changed parts. It will be challenging but I'm not afraid to learn or try something new. There's obviously a wealth of knowledge here and on the internet to help me get it done.
