fng with lots of questions!!
First off im glad to be a new member. Ive looked at several forums and this one seemed to be the most informative. So i joined. Here are my questions. 1st, I have a little oil on top of the motor. I put my hand under the black rubber boot on the left. There seems to be some oil on the under side of it. 2nd, Im thinking of changeing my airaid filter to the 6637. I measured the airaid box and its to small. So ill have to take out the whole system. Can i just put the 3" adapter at the very end? 3rd, Ive seen a lot of other forums that show a sock over the filter. I found some cool ones at riffraff. Will this restict the air flow? 4th, Is it safe to tow with 1" spacers at about 9000lb's? Last, i had a friend sell his truck and he gave me his turbo master waste gate controller. What would be the benefit of putting this on? My programmer already gets my boost up to 21lbs. Sorry for all the questions.

Glad to have you -
to the ORG!!Don't worry about questions, that's how we all learn about our trucks. On the main page, up under the PowerStroke.org logo, there is a "Google Custom Search" box. You can type in things like '6637', 'filter sock', etc. Lots of threads will show up. Hope you don't mind reading. Also, if you haven't already, you can check out these forums: Ford Powerstroke 99-03 7.3L Forums - Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum |

I've towed 6,000 to 7,000 lbs with 2" spacers (on top of multiple burnouts, boosted launches, etc..), so I think you should be golden as far as that goes.

You'd probably have more luck going into the forums for your truck versus here, this isn't a very busy part of the site!

How do I get there

What truck do you have? I have signatures disabled, so I can't tell what you have (if you have a signature, that is)

Go up to my first post - I put a link to the 7.3L forum areas.

the oil soaking through the boot is because these trucks have a closed crankcase vent system. or CCV this sends oil into the intake tract and through the intercooler tubes.
eventually your intercooler boots and intake boots are soaked in oil. You can just clamp the filter onto your airraid intake tube. or just buy the DIY intake kit from riffraff. the pre-filter wrap does not restrict airflow it just blocks big particles of crap from getting in the filter. lastly the stock wastegate opens at 5 psi so technically you are losing boost. you can adjust the turbomaster to open at 20 psi instead of 5. |
