Moved to CT from NY 4 months ago, originally from the pacific north west. Drove the above home this past Sunday. 96 standard cab, f250, auto 4x4, 4.10 gears. 4 inch lift, 4inch down pipe, strait pipe, 35s, came with a plow. New water pump as of last week. Trans was looked at 6k miles ago and was in good shape. Was not the original one. Diffs, trans fluid done 6k ago. Oil changed 3k ago. In the middle of a coolant flush. Just distilled water currently. Going to stick with standard coolant and SCA and finish that this weekend.
Started it up last friday after being unplugged and not driven for a week. Started right up. Small puff of slightly darker smoke and we were off and running. The smell took me back to being on my grandfathers commercial fishing boat. Good times.
Minimal rust, oil pan is immaculate, nothing leaking, or not bad enough its getting to the ground. Had it checked out at Wayne Jones in Danbury CT, who had done some work on the truck before. On the hunt for a diesel shop/guru closer to Norwalk, CT if any one has any recommendations.
Getting new batteries with in the next couple of weeks. Will learn how to do glow plugs and GPR before winter. Need to pick up an extra PCM.
To do list down the road:
Trans temp guage to baby the current trans.
Coolant filter
Nice quiet muffler (Shouting isn't my style and there is no mistaking this thing is a diesel truck any way)
Mayyyyyyybe take out the 4 inch lift. (not if I do an axle swap)
Bed rails for tying down
rear window rack guard
side steps.
Wish List:
d60 Swap
zf5 swap (would really like a zf6 but probably out of my price range)
total body/frame rust removal and prevention
solid rear axle
I'm a diesel virgin, and looking to learn. No real experience on vehicles other then changing a tire. Already been helped out by this site and its members. This will be my semi weekly driver: every other day half the year, almost every day the other half. Looking to load the bed with wood for my stove, pull some trees around on my inlaws farm, and enjoy the ride.
