Possible Diesel Buyer
Hey guys,
I have been a diesel mechanic for 6 years in the army and have worked in the diesel aftermarket world a little. I hate to say it, but I have yet to own my own diesel. I recently stumbled on an amazing deal and I will hopefully be getting it soon if everything works out. I did have one question though. Ive never heard of this, but a friend of mine seems to think that the the 7.3 in the 2003 I am looking at is not able to run on the new diesel they are producing. I dont know anything about it nor have I heard of this. Anybody have any thoughts or answers? |

You can surely run the newer fuel in that truck. The newer vehicles are designed to run on ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD), which is what is available right now. The new fuel has less lubricity, but it will run fine in a 7.3L. A lot of people run fuel additives to make up for the lost lubricity but I don't think it's something that you must do. The 2003 was the last year of the 7.3L, they are sort of rare.
