PSD #2 giving me headache in austin, where is the brain?

Hi,

we are replacing our 95 f350 crew cab/long bed train of a truck with a 2000 excursion PSD w/ 4x4.

f350 has 208k, has gobs of power and gets 20mpg on hwy.

excursion has 180k seems to be lacking in power and is getting 12.5 mpg (according to OBC). since it takes $115 to fill the tank, I won't know true mpg for some time.

anyhow, took it to the dealer. had injectors flushed and code history read. they replaced the CPS and a few other sensors and finally came to the conclusion that the engine computer is bad. said it was throwing out false codes.

they wanted a large amount of funding to replace the brain. I found one on ebay for $75 (used) but I can't seem to find where it goes!

I realize this belongs in the tech dept and I've gone way past introductions... but I'm tired of popping off panels and poking under things.

is this a job for a pro wrench?

also, anybody in austin know of a good diesel wrench?

I expect that after computer swap I might need a bit of chip and intake tweaking.

Welcome to the .org -- maybe some of the mods can move your questions into the OBS section...

or you may get more response if you post a thread in that section

Welcome to the .org and I know there are some here that will know exactly what you're looking for!

Welcome to the ORG.!

I can tell you where the PCM is on the '95, but I'm not sure about the EX. I think it is in the area behind the driver side kick panel. I'm not sure how to get to it. Good luck.

Yup - the PCM is under the driverside kick panel that is removed by turning the two flat head type screws a 1/4 turn and the panel pops off... that is for the EX

check out this vid if its for the EX...Video - DP-Tuner Install

more confuzuns

thanks for all the welcomes.

my wife came home and looked at the computer. she found some patent #s, she's patent atty.

she looked at all the schematics and this computer I have might not even be the right one. she says it's the ignition computer and that the one we need might be one of the others

now I need to call my svc advisor at the dealer. we paid $2k of repairs, some of that diagnosis for the "service engine soon" light. I need to press them for the part # for the exact computer I need to replace. I feel like I am about to depart on a long frustrating journey.

Howdy and

The main computer (which is the only one I know of) is located under the dash on the driver side right next to parking brake. you have to unbolt the bulkhead connetor in the engine compartmant then 2 7mm bolts i think and remove from under the dash. the only other thing it could be is the IDM (injector drive module) which is located on the firewall i believe.

THANKS!

that video is awesome! I do seem to have the correct computer, or at least I have the same one in the video (box w/ X on it). it's that black plastic sleeve that threw me off.

thanks!
