Hello! I've seen powerstroke in the past, but decided to join today. My auto history and trucks: I've always loved and drove Toyotas.. Ready for all the flames coming! 1st car was a Corolla and bought a new 4Runner in 88. Currently drive an 08 FJCruiser. So why am I here? Actually, as a former pro truck driver, I have experience and love for diesels. I wanted a full size diesel in the past, but didn't really need one and couldn't justify the expense.. Living in Jersey years ago, couldn't afford a new one and the used ones that popped up were at deaths doorstep.. They worked in construction and then usually did snowplowing in the winter until they got sold. I actually did buy a used Ford Ranger to haul firewood and stuff for a few years. Can't say I loved or hated the truck, kinda in between; but it's not the kind of vehicle people get excited about. Fast foward to now with my Toyota FJ... It has low miles, meticulously maintained, great condition, but.. I'm a plumber/tradesman in Florida and I work out of a utility trailer. My 1st trailer was a 7 X 12... The FJ did ok with that although it's not really much of a tow vehicle at all. Last summer, I upgraded and bought a 8 X 14 trailer that's 6.5' inside, so it's also taller than the last.. This has created issues. It's aluminum, so the weight is still ok with the FJ, but.. on the highway it's a handful and gets rather squirly over 65. Forget mileage. Biggest problem is the width; because the FJ and it's mirrors are so narrow, I can't see the sides of the trailer backing up until it's got a good bend. I need a real tow vehicle and up to now, nothing has caught my eye except the new Super Duty. Not sure when I'll buy one, but it will be the biggest car purchase I've made in my life. I've built it several times on Ford's website and they are pricey. I may buy this year or wait til 18; right now it doesn't sound like Ford is giving great deals on the Super because it's selling so well. Supply and demand, I get it. Happy to see an American company doing well with new products. Looking forward to reading up on any info and opinions about what will hopefully be my future truck.
welcome to the org
:ORG welcome:
I always try to stay away from a first year run of any vehicle because there are ALWAYS problems with it :dunno:
and if you cna find build date and really want to carry this ideology out try to buy one built on a wednessday or thursday and avoid monday and friday builds at all cost.
it isounds odd but it seems to hold true with the some are good and some bad theory
Thanks, John. Avoid 1st year new anything.. Yes! That has been around a long time and I think for good reason. Part of the reason I'm searching all I can about the new SD. So far, weak spots or problems are not popping up, but we are still in March. To my thinking, it may be years before gripes/issues surface about the aluminum body surface if they appear at all. Might be the greatest thing since sliced bread. In theory, it looks like Ford learned some lessons and has the drivetrain fairly ironed out. Some are mentioning upgrading the injectors, but as an engine, the 6.7 is doing well. If need be, I can wait til 18 for the new model, but I'm positive there will be very little change from this model to 18. Perhaps they'll change the injectors? These trucks are expensive by anyone's measure, but in all fairness, you're buying a lot of technology and ability. Obviously, a single cab XL with a gas engine is not a 350 Platinum dually..
Have I missed the white gold or is it a new color? It looks pretty sharp; I gotta say Ford has some great colors. Really hard to go wrong or make a bad choice. Nice looking dually PawPaw. Pulling some toys, or a work truck?
The color is new for the '17 Super Duty's. Easy to keep clean and not too hot in the summer. I'm retired so I'll be pulling our toyhauler and 28' Kevlacat boat with it. I live out in the country so its not bad for my daily driver either. Averaging close to 16 mpg in the first 800 miles so its not that much lower then the '13 F-150 I traded in. Thanks for the compliment!!
