7.3 is what I want
I have a gas F250 4X4 off road standcab long bed XLT right now. The engine needs some work and to complicate this we are trying to move to the other coast, Cali that is. So I am thinking if I sell my F250 I will take a beating on it, also here in Delaware because it wieghs more than 8500lb gvw there are no emissions; a good selling point. In Cali diesel's are not smoged, sweet! So here are my choices: sell the 250 at a lose and buy the crew 7.3 turbo I have been pining for OR do an engine conversion on my current ride and drop in that 7.3. I am already working in Cali but ther buget is tight so I have to wait to get a new truck, could fix the 250 and ship it out......... oh crap what to do. I guess it comes down to if doing a swap is worth it.

First off. Why in the heck are you moving from Delaware to Cali? I just moved from Cali to Maine. As for smog in Commiefornia, well, diesels '98 and newer will be subject to smog. So if you're gonna get a 7.3L, you'll have to get an older one. Other than that, it's not too bad. (as in, you can chop out the cat, but I believe you need a muffler, though I'm not for sure) Cali emissions isn't done by weight. It's done by age. And as I mentioned above, any diesel truck, newer than '98, will be subject to emissions. Oh, and registration is WAY spendy. My '95 F350 4X4 CC long bed, was about $300 for registration, and that was before they DOUBLED the registration cost to help fund illegal immigrant support programs. I would suspect it would be a lot "easier", to just get a truck that already has the 7.3L in it. That way when it comes to register, you're not trying to explain why the truck doesn't have a gas motor in it anymore. Might be a good idea to contact DMV in Cali, and see what they say. mike |

Anyways, as said, it would be much easier and cheaper to just get another truck. Especially a CC. At least with the CC's, you get the 4-door discount on your insurance, to help keep costs as low as possbile. Jerseymike68- Riverside huh? That's really interesting. I bought my truck just south of Riverside in Sun City. Was a heck of a drive from Tehachapi, but it was worth it. Oldtimer550- Cool. Some people in this neck of the woods are just startin to emerge. You ought to swing by the Maine state forum within the .org. (don't want to hijack threads) mike |
