Hey hows it going, welcome to the forum. Where abouts in Cali are you moving?

I suggest you sell the truck and get a 7.3L I wouldn't hassle with a swap. As far as smog goes in Cali, you will have to begin smogging the truck in 2010.

Green Oil. I just left Cali, about 2 months ago. I know they were going to be requireing smog on diesels, but I had heard the cut off year was '98. Have they changed that? It doesn't matter too much to me, but it might change the model year looked at being purchased.

I have a 94 7.3 motor for sale. It was running great when i pulled it out, It needs the rear main seal replaced. I was planning replacing all seals and gaskets but havent had the time or money. The motor has 224,000 miles on it and still has the hone maeks on the cylender walls. it has new globe plugs and new injector harnes. The motor is apart but i have everything but the injectors. Make me an offer if your interested.

you might want to look into the swap more. if your worried about it being legal for emissions. im almost positive that they will go by the vin #, so if that vin goes with a gas motor and you do the swap then the diesel will have to meat those standers. might be different in other states. just something to think about

Just get the 7.3 truck! And honestly dont worry too much about smog... its not like people dont get under the table smog done here on their gassers.. it'll just go to the diesels now too, its freaking retarded I bought a diesel for that reason as well. But at least they cant make us put cats on them or anything.. and if they do they best be paying for it(not like i'd keep it on)... my 2 cents.

Well, there in-lies the problem. I'm not for sure, but if Ca. is going to be requireing smog on diesel trucks, that probably means they're going to require the trucks be outfitted with a cat. Hopefully not. It's such a load of crap. If you're lucky, it's just California's way of getting more money out of the legal, law abiding citizen to pay of programs to support those that aren't legal or law abiding. (as if doubleing the registration cost wasn't enough)
