Hello from Texas
I just signed in today and have been reading a little in the 7.3L tech write up. I am looking for information about these 7.3L powerstroke as I am thinking of buying a 2002 F-450 single cab standard transmisson with 150,000 miles. Only thing is I haven't seen it in person and it doesn't run. The previous owner says the turbo went out on it but they couldn't crank it up due to the battery being dead. Also since it's on the other side of Texas I have to rely on my buddy to tell me what he thinks. He says over all the condition of the truck looks good, just normal work condition. He says he don't see anything out of the ordinary under the hood so that makes it a internal problem. The price is $500-$1000 depending on what the owner wants as he is looking for the title right now.
If he finds the title and wants $1000 I might grab it. I'm just wondering what should I look for when I get to see it? What are the signs of a bad Turbo? Could it just be a bad pipe either on the intake of exhaust side? Is it common for the turbo to fail? I watched the turbo removal video and see it's not a hard chore. I've worked on a 7.3L IDI turbo so I'm pretty confident I can work on this truck, just have to learn the powerstroke better. Also what does a turbo cost to replace? I'll keep reading so thanks and happy towing! |

Welcome, sounds like a steal if you can figure out whats wrong with the motor. As long as there aren't any major issues with it mechanically I'd jump on it for the price.
Check out some of the other sections and try posing the question to them, everyone is real nice here and would be more than willing to help you out. Thanks Green Oil |
