newbie checkin' in (or check' out)

Hi all.

just thought i'd check out this forum on psd's.

I've got a '99 F-450 chassis dually crew cab which I use to tow my 5th wheel.

She's got plenty of towing power but I'm thinking of adding some hp's & ft-lbs. Looks like I ken get more power and better mpg's at the same time.

Not sure but I'm thinking she's got 4.88's - good torque but mileage is the pits. Maybe I ken go to 4.10's or better and use something like the Edge w/attitude, aftermkt turbo, headers, injector upgrade, etc.

But, which products are the best bang fer the buck. I've been reading Diesel Power mag. Too much info. I'm not sure whether to buy the Edge or the Banks (for '99 7.3 the banks PDA isn't avail), or the HyperTech HyperPack w/GPS? and just to make it worse - seems like all the listings are for the f150-f350's - nothing for the 450. But, what the heck - a 7.3psd is a 7.3, right? probably not. just another question.

and then which turbo and which injectors. And do I have to upgrade rest of fuel system?

Diesels running about $3/gal around here. Ouch!

And yes, I'll be reading posts on this site - just to get some ed-u-MA-ca-Tion.....on these items.

Welcome to powerstroke.org
I would think about a 4:30 gear set, 4:10 might be a little high for the 19.5 inch wheel and tire setup.

Welcome to the Forum!

Ford only offered 4.88 and 5.33 rears for those trucks. Is it an early '99 or late? We have one at work that is stock except for a SCT tuner set on 50 hp tow safe. Get some gauges and a tuner and it will really wake it up.
