new to list 99 psd
Hi all,
I picked up a 99 - build date 12/98 F250 x cab 4x4, manual 6 speed. the truck has 16k original(verified) miles. My question relates to some comments seen about the early 99's - which I believe this is one - what are the downsides to these? The turbo really spools up and you can hear it well. Seems like a great rig so far. Previous Ford diesels include 85 6.9; 91 7.3; 94 7.3 turbo. thanks |

welcome to the forum!
i think the most complained about part is the auto tranny for that year, guess you dont have to worry about that. the cam position sensor (cps) is another item that gets attention on these model years. only 16k miles, thats really low. do you know why only 16k? |

Welcome to the Forum!
I like the early '99's. The turbo sounds great. I have heard they have a little smaller injector than the later PS's, but we have one at work that smokes plenty with just a SCT tuner. I have driven several of the early '99's over the years, and have never had any complaints. Your truck has a better compressor wheel than the later trucks, also. Many of the late '99 owners swap to the one you have. Last edited by pipelayerjdh; 02-10-2007 at 05:05 AM. |

Thanks for the welcomes,
I know about the cps problem and will carry a spare. The scoop on the truck is it was bought new by grandpa to carry his truck camper and the occasional pulling of his horse trailer, all pretty close to home. He is one of those guys who really takes care of his stuff and is a stickler for maintenance and records. He ended up having knee problems so had to get an automatic. The guy who sold him the truck originally knows him personally and took it back in trade for the auto. Has the tow package, 3.73 axle, XLT trim. It does have a chip(non-programable) and modified air cleaner- I can't tell if the exhaust has been changed tho. Thanks again - great forum, been cruising the archives |
