'93-'97 F-series front seat configurations - help!
Wow, I've been looking for a 40/20/40 front seat for my regular cab and have run into a lot of seat configurations but not quite the right setup and I'm getting the idea that I can patch some pieces together and I'm looking for some confirmation.
I currently have the bench seat with the fold down arm rest and I understand there is a 40/20/40 seat that comes on a "pan" that would bolt in the same way my bench does. Most of what I'm running into are the 40/20/40's that all three bolt in individually - which, from what I'm told, means I have to drill 8 new holes and plug the 4 that my seat now bolt through - not what I want to do. Also, I have amplifiers under my seats now that I'm not sure will fit if I have to bolt individual seats in - right now they just barely slide under each side of bench seat but once in there they rest in depressions in the floor with the cable for adjusting the seat forward/backward just brushing across the top of them. Here's what I'm wondering - is the best option for me is find a "pan" and then try to find seats that will bolt onto it? If so, which option would work the best for me? - Do I need to find a stock "pan" with the 3 seats and that's the only way I can do it? - If I disassemble the seat I have will I have the "pan" I want and then find individual seats to bolt to it? - Can I find a pan and then find a jump seat and buckets seats or "captain's chairs", take their mounting hardware off and then they will bolt right onto the pan? Are bucket seats and captain's chairs the same thing except the captains chairs have the attached arm rest? Could I detatch the armrests and find a cover that will go over the mount so a jump seat will fit along side of it? - Something I haven't thought of? - When the 3 seats are bolted to a pan, do they adjust forward/backward all together like a bench or can they move independently? - Would the stock "pan" afford me any more or less clearance (thinking about the amps) than the bench seat I currently have? - Will I be able to use my current seatbelts with any new configuration I come up with? I've even found different types of mounts from the same model year for individual buckets/captain's seats - lol, I'm really confused!!! ![]() If anyone has any pictures of the undersides of seats it might really help me understand my options. I just don't live in an area where there are many of these to look at. Right now I'm looking on craigslist because junkyards don't seem to have seats to sell around here. Some folks have seats but rarely do people seem to know what the heck I'm asking for! I hope someone can straighten me out! Thanks! |

I cant answer any of your other questions. But Ive got the center section of a 40-20-40 seat sitting in my garage. It came out of a supercab and as far as I know the crew and supercab trucks have the seats that mount individualy and the regular cab trucks have all 3 seats mounted on a type of rail that mounts to the floor. I would like to get this seat out of my gargage if you are interested in it PM me. |

The pan you are talking about is the way to go. Just hit up a few junkyards and look for the pan with the three seats. The drivers and passenger seats move independently like normal buckets. The jumpseat is stationary. It will bolt directly to where your bench seat is. We did the whole drill and individually mount the seats and it wasn't very sturdy. We found the pan with seats in a ext. cab truck at a junkyard so I believe they were offered in the ext cabs and not the reg cab trucks. All of the reg cab trucks I have seen have the bench with the tiny armrest. I am sure it will fit perfectly though. I have a regular cab and am waiting for my local pick n pull to get some more OBS in so I can snatch that very setup. I will look tomorrow and get you some dimensions from the pan to the seats...

Thanks for your help guys. I should have said that I have a regular cab. 6.0DSLPWR - I may be in touch with you because I may have to patch things together - what color is your seat? Shipping could be a little steep from where you are and I only wish I could take that road trip! bondsman - I'd love any dimensions - my local Ford dealers tell me they don't even have them But I'm getting a better idea of what body styles I need to be looking for parts from. I heard that it can be unsturdy and a pain to bolt the individuals in as well.If I find some captain's chairs or buckets would I be able to unbolt them from their individual mounts and then bolt them right to the pan? I may have found someone who has a pan with a jump seat attached. I just found a picture of a jump seat that may show that it can be unbolted from its individual mount and onto a pan - not sure though. If it does and the captain's/buckets can be unbolted in the same way I may be able to pull this off after all.
