Looking for some information about IL
I figured this would be the best place to ask this. It looks like my wife and I will be moving up to IL this summer as she will be getting a really good promotion and I am getting out of the AF. I will be working there as well. It looks like my new office will be in Northbrook (if I get the job) and hers will south Barrington I think. So I have a few questions.
First and foremost where are good places to live that would be ideal for both offices till her moves to Northbrook? Now to my truck issue I current have an 8 inch lift and 37's I was going to go bigger but I read that in IL your bumper has to be within 3 inch of stock? Is that true? What do you guys run on yours? What could I run and not get hassles with? Any help would be great Thank you in advance. |

Lot's of nice choices between the two locations, although East/West commuting between them is not straight forward the further North you go. But it really depends on what you're looking for and your budget, because there's huge spreads in the area.
There aren't a lot of lifted trucks in the area that I've seen and I've known a few people that have been hassle due to bumper height. Welcome. |

I work on the Naval Base in Great lakes and travel all over the place around North chicago. 8 inch lift and 37's and have never been hassled in the 2 years I have been here. I have out of state Tags with a DOD sticker though so that might play a hand in it

In Illinois the issue is with your bumper height. If you raise your truck and your bumper, it is seen as taking away the "protection" that a bumper provides. Also the bumper height varies along with the weight of the truck. Which brings up another IL favorite.......Having the proper plates for the weight of the truck. Chances are you will only have an issue if you run across a "Truck enforcement" officer (Commercial trucks) or a State trooper. To figure out where your truck should fall on the bumper height, you would probably consult the IL vehicle Code
. Hope that helps, If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I can find out for you.
