96 f250

Hey guys! New to the forum so hopefully I can get some helpful tips. Im not new to powerstrokes, I just haven't had one in a while. My first truck was a 2000 f250 with the trusty 7.3 in her. Right now I have a fuel efficient family vehicle but I want something just for me and that I don't have to worry about getting the interior tore up with my work. So, a guy I work with has a 96 f250 with the trusty 7.3 in it (big plus for me.) The exterior is good, almost too good actually. My question is, it has 202k on the odo however the transmission HAS been replaced in it roughly 50k miles ago. If I were to purchase it now, should that tranny last atleast another 150k-200k? I baby all my vehicles and that wouldn't be any different for this one. Just kinda weary about that tranny going out again here soon. He's asking 4,000 for it which is about 3,000 less than what it books for. I work with him so I don't think he would lead me astray. All of the owners were older guys (including him) so I know it was taken care of pretty well. Any help would be great, thanks so much in advance for advice!!

Keep it serviced properly and it should be good for quite a while. Don't know about getting another 150k+ without issues but it should last a long time.

Thanks for the reply dhanna. I appreciate the insight and I agree with you 100%. As with any vehicle (diesel or gas) there are going to be repairs along the way, I was just hoping to hear the tranny should be good for another minute or two. Hes got a pretty long list of things that he has done to it, new brakes, brake lines, batteries, etc., so he has maintained it, as would I. I would just be ticked to get it then drop the transmission 5k miles down the road. Thanks again!

So sorry that I have not been able to relply back sooner due to being out of the states for business. I did end up getting it! It was like falling in love all over again. Made me realize how much I missed having one. For having 200k on the clock it runs like a champ. Thanks for checking up with me!
