The mods and admin discussed the idea, We decided that it would be best for fabrication ideas that a new thread just be started. If is a good idea or alot of interest we will make it a sticky

Help me weld better

I came across this old thread and think it's a great idea. I'm trying to get better at welding but i'm having problems with the cheap mig welder i bought from harbor freight. When I try to lay a bead the welder will start and stop intermitently and my weld ends up looking like crap. I don't know if its me or the welder or both. Maybe I have it on the wrong settings or i'm using bad wire....I don't know. Anyone out there that might be able to help?

I don't know if it has it...it should though? Under the cover where the wire goes and comes out the front. There should be a tensioner wheel there? I have yet to see a MIG welder without one. This is used for setting wire thickness or more pressure. Might not be tight enough and causing the problem? Check it and see.
