Religion Section
I didn't take the time to read through the entire Ideas and Suggestions section, but was wondering what everybodies thoughts were on starting a Religion section with Daily Devotions.

I will vote for it as long as people can agree to act like adults. I dont post here often, I am here mainly to read the tech info. However I often debate theism in other forums and find it quite interesting to see others outlooks on the various beliefs. I am Atheist myself, but I am always fascinated by people who are willing to give everything to something that they have no evidence to support.
To each their own. |

I agree with godless77 as far as people being adults and being civil.
There are many points of view even amongst people of faith and I've seen arguments happen over the those POVs. Then add people like godless77 (only as an example - Not saying anything bad about him) who do not believe God exists. Then forums get nasty with the "US vs THEM" attitudes. That shouldn't be either. Whether some don't believe God is or whether some do believe, but aren't active or whether some have active relationships with God (I do) isn't a cause to create animousity between the varying personal values. You can disagree with someone else's POV and remain civil and understanding. If this type of forum can remain the latter, then I would support it. If it goes bad, I would support its dissolve. You can be right, and yet be soooo wrong. |

This has been discussed with the staff before. And as you can see it didn't happen...doesn't mean it wont someday and i'm sure it will get discussed again now.

The only reason that I bring it up is because I am part of some other forums and they have a religion section and there seems to be no problem with it. I only want a place to post up religious related articles without being called out. If they are in the correct section, then nobody can say anything about that. To each their own, if someone doesn't want to read it then that is fine. I am not going to be shoving religion down anybodys throats, I just want to make it avaliable to those who want to read it.

Religion is such a touchy subject. I think that it can be done but there are so many people out there (even on this site) that go out of their way to try and start stuff with fellow members and what better ammo to do so then with religion.
I think that it could be done and I myself would post there but I will not push my religion on anyone and expect the same in return. If I don't share the same views as you then just leave it alone as I will. If we can agree to be respectful to everyone's beliefs then for power to it. |

Thank you Ryan, as I have said already, I am not wanting to start a section that pushes religion on somebody, or makes those who don't believe in God feel not welcome, I am just wanting a place for religious conversation. We are all adults here, and expect that we can all act as such.

I think it is a good idea and if you don't want to hear or read about it then don't it is your choice. Religion can bring up some good discussion as long as people don't try and say they are right and everyone else is wrong.

Religion and Politics are 2 subjects that can get very heated, very fast. We have a politics section and we have discussed burning it because it takes alot of baby sitting sometimes and a religion section was viewed as being the same kind of deal. Probably won't happen but thats not my call.

As Clay said earlier, this has been discussed before and has not been
implemented. Not because the Staff is non-religious or against free speach, but because it would certainly attract those who would stir the pot just to get a reaction. There are countless sites on the web to visit for daily devotionals and discussions. I would vote against starting a section for that here. |
