Stickys in the forum!!!

Guys, do you Mods have the capability of making certain posts "stickys"??? I'll post a link to Neons.org - The best neon site on the net! for referance of what I'm talking about.

www.neons.org :: View Forum - Engine Performance

At the top os the listing, there are stickyed posts that have been collected over time. They are common questions or items of interest that the members would like to have at hand with out having to search. I think it would be great to get this capability for posts like the "What to expect in the winter" and posts about modification orders....(what to do first, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)

What do y'all think??

Yeah, we can do that. We also try and put things like that in the Tech Forums too. That way once they get written, no one else can post to it, the Author can change it and add stuff, but noone else can, that way the information does not get burried in the thread them selves.

If someone wants to write up a good thread with tech stuff, they can get a Mod to sticky it, lock it, or place it in the tech section if no one has already done one.

I think thats a great idea, that way when answering a question it can be used as a referral or as a link to help them out. But by the same token, I would not like it to be used to sluff people off, as was done to Stump on that other forum. The people come here because of the warmth of the forum, I want it to stay that way.

Gord.

Like logan said, we can.

If you want "sticky" material do a writeup and we'll move it somewhere that doesn't get all cluttered up. Like the TECH files!!!

I hear you about not sluffing folks off when they have a question. Having someone tell a newbie to use the search isn't quite cool. I'll get around to sitting down, copying some links and submit it all for the TECH/sticky section. It will take me a while...b/c, well, I suck at the internet....but I'll get it done. What else am I going to do for the next 2 weeks that I'm off work??

Ya, a lot of the newer members are still trying to get their bearings on navigating the sight, it only takes a minute to give them the links in a friendly way, rather than being abrupt and cold about it. we don't want to give them the feeling of being looked down on, just because they don't have the experience of how the site works. A lot of the new members are a lot like myself, SHY, FEELINGS EASILY HURT, AND AFRAID TO SAY ANYTHING. hehhehheh. And thanks for the extra work your giving yourself Ditty, I'm sure many people appreciate it as I do.

Politely explaining how a person might use the search to help them find information is a good idea. Thats not sluffing them off but in addition to any help you offer them, you have given them a second alternative by explaining how they might find oodles of info from a simple search.

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day...
Teach a man to fish and he will be an unemployed beer drinker within a month...wait, thats not how its supposed to go is it?
You get the idea though.
