Faking It

Ok, so being mechanically inclined I tend to do most of my own maintenance. Sometimes people ask me some really silly things, like what's making the squeak in my car, without me hearing it. I respond with something fake just to get a giggle out of it. "It's your muffler bearings."

A friend was just starting to work on cars, and asked me what all to get, and of course for an oil and fluid change, we gave him the list of oil, antifreeze, oil filter. Then he asked what else... "Oh, pick up some blinker fluid and some alternator belt lube."

I had a flat tire in my driveway, and the neighbor walks up and asked me if it went flat on me overnight. My response, "Naaah, I'm rotating the air in my tires to put in summer air."

So what are YOUR favorite fake car maintenance terms...

I'm a big fan of the muffler bearings one, but when people ask me why their check engine light came on and the vehicle still drives fine I like to tell them their computer needs a reset, it's lost plumb, have you driven on any embankments lately?
