Shed Hunters?

Anyone one here do any antler hunting? I spend alot of days every year looking and I cant find anything. I have found pieces, and a few squirrel chewed bits, but in the last 5 or 6 years, I have only found 1 decent antler. I know the deer are around, I see them in season.

I always hear fence and creek crossings, late season food sources, cedar thickets... I check them all, but find little or nothing at all. Any suggestions (from someone who finds them)?

I'm in California with work right now and thought about looking here, but everywhere I have found to hike locally (near Laguna Beach) is some "wilderness area" and its illegal to even pick a dandelion there. I dont think I like this part of CA.

I look every spring. My best luck is around feeders (ours are free choice and filled year round) and close to fence crossings. Travel roads looking for fence crossings. They are usually within abour 30 yards either side of the fence. Coyotes will frequently carry them to an opening an chew.

My best prize are from a deer of ours that died at 8 1/2 YO. My son and I found six pairs of his sheds. No doubt they are from the same deer. We have pics and video from every year. We mounted his last pair and scored at 214BC.

214, thats a monster.
Best I found was one side off a 130" rack.
Guess I better keep looking.

I've heard where some guys in south Texas have trained their deer tracking dogs to find sheds. Might be a neat way to keep the dogs in shape, but definately fun.

I've only found 2 axis sheds and that was pure luck. I was staring at them for a minute before I even realized what I was looking at
