I'm with this guy I've had a Ruger m77 blue w/ wood stock. Had it for 10 years and have gotten at least one every year if not 4 droped 3 at 425-435 yards they shoot real flat It all depends on where and what you are shooting throw brush or open range

the .270 or 30-06 are bot good rifles. Me personally i like the 30-06. the remington model 700 is by far one of the best actions out there and easily customizable if you wanted to do more than just hunt with it.

Gun

Between those 2, I'd go bolt action 30.06. Very dependable, you can kill just about anything with it, and you can get shells for it anywhere.

It really depends on where you hunt.
Thick cover, short yardage shots, a 30-30 is hard to beat.
100-200 yds. I like the 25-06, 270 cal.
200-300 yds. I like the 7mm mag., 300 Win. mag.

You need to shoot some and research the calibers and guns.

I shoot a Win Coyote in 22-250, and Rem. 700 BDL in 7mm mag.
Scopes are Leopold Vari-X III and Nikon Buckmaster

30-06 is pretty popular rifle. Bullets can be bought anywhere. I also like a 243. Shoots long and flat. Remington Bolt is my choice

we have a remington model 700 25-06 and i have seen it shoot as good as 9.5 inches at 1000 yds. pretty good for just a factory gun but as mentioned above it will depend a lot on your hunting enviroment as to what is the best.

the .243 is also a good caliber. ammo is fairly inexpensive and will take down a deer very nicely between 100-200 yards

In my opinion the 243 IS a good rifle but it just doesnt have the knock down power that a .270 has. I mean of course its not but it just seems to me that you can reach out a little further with the .270. My little brother has a rem. .243 little short thing and is it a blast to shoot.

No mean to hijack but any of you like shooting lever action guns. I LOVE EM!!! My dad my brother and I have a bunch of lever actions and there fun to shoot. We bought a little .22 lever action the other day and man that thing is a blast. Looks just like a bigger 30-30 or 44 but is a .22 and is CHEAP to shoot

I just got a 30-06 model 200 from Stevens. I got it at normal price 299.00. Let me tell you that rifle for the price and quality I could not beat it. Put a scope on it had it bore sighted. At 100 yards I was just high and left made some adjustsments now it is dead on shooting a group of 3 rounds smaller then a quarter it is that tight.
