Opening Morning Pass

Well y'all saw what Lisa (Curlysue) got opening mornin' in the Big Buck Contest thread. Here is what I passed on. She and I were walking back to get the 4 wheeler and didn't get 40 yards from her Axis laying dead that she'd JUST shot not even 20 minutes prior and this guy was standing there. I knelt down and laid my scope on him, had Lisa get out the video camera and start taping. She was standing and off to my left, so she had a tree branch in her way but here are some screen shots. I'll post the whole video as soon as I get a sec to shrink it down. I almost squeezed off a couple of times while watching him but kept my cool. I'm looking for a monster and less than an hour on opening day, the odds of him being it were slim, so I passed.

How many tags do yall get down there in Texas? Because here in NC, that would have been dinner.

I can kill 3 whitetail bucks and 2 does (or 5 does), we just manage our place VERY stringently. I'll take one nice whitetail this year and probably hit some of the Axis doe population to knock them down a bit. Lisa got that big Axis buck so we decided to hit the does to help the over population of exotics. Now we can hunt Axis all year long and they don't require a tag.

Thanks Scott amd Welcome to Powerstroke.org. I'm sure you know then how much it's killing me hoping if someone else gets a glimpse of him on another ranch that they'll do the same.
