Calling PA Whitetail Experts????

Anyone in or near PA may be able to help specifically on this one.

I saw a buck last night that I have been after, but have not been able to see him during shooting hours. I saw him last night for the first time well within shooting hours and I believe he is in the prerut phase (bye himself, mature and typically nocturnal but out in broad daylight last evening). I think he was possibly checking a scrape line I know of that would be on the way to a nearby food source.

Should I expect him to hold this pattern till he is disturbed or starts to follow does?

And if so......he will be this evening or tom. evening.

later,

try finding one of his scrapes and put up a scrape dripper, it only drips in the daytime so after a couple days or a week, it will train him to come out in the day to defend it, thats how i got a big buck in our apple orchard last year

This time of year I dont expect anything to stay the same more than a day or 2 at best, and if your talking bucks (and you are) I don't expect them to be in the same place same time next day this late in the year.
Does coming in and out of estrous, changing food sources, newly picked fields(around here), more clowns stomping in the woods...
Too much change. If you happen to see him again and I hope you do, consider yourself lucky.

Get you a set of rattling horns and a video to teach you how to use them and call that big boy right to ya!!!!
There is absolutely no better way to get a buck to practically jump in your lap when the rut or pre-rut is in full swing!
I use this technique alot with great succsess. Its easy to rattle, just get an instructional video and a set of horns, either imitations or a set of real ones from last years kill and i promise you, you will have so much fun bringing them in. When they are heading to what they think is a buck fight, they come through the woods and sound like a friggin D9 dozer at full speed! You'll think a sasquatch is coming in on ya with all the noise they make! I use real horns, just a small set off a 2x3 buck i killed and those fit well in my pack. This only works during, or close to rut though.

Clay, you'll have to come up and show me how its done, I'd like to see it in person. Looks awesome on the videos, but I've never had much luck myself. Must be awesome to call one in, I know the feeling from turkeys, but think it'd be way better on deer

Its really simple. I never saw a video but I read a writeup in some deerhunting mag.
Start by "tickling" the horns, picture two bucks sparing...they start out slow and progress to become more violent with there heads.
Tickel a little...stop....tickle and little and more aggressly...stop.....now get with it like two pissed off bucks....for about 10 seconds....stop.....get after it hard again for about 15 seconds.....stop....get after it once more for 15 seconds and make this one loud like the climax of the fight....the stop and put your horn down and listen and wait. Each time you stop, it simulates the two deeer backing off, regrouping then one of them taking another shot at the other so your stopps should be about3-5 seconds only.
So this is exactly how i do it.
If a buck is within hearing range and hes either a smaller curious buck or a larger dominant buck, you can bet he;ll be there within 5 minutes. If hes a smaller, less dominant buck, and he's only curious to watch a fight, hell come in sneeking. If he's a larger more dominant buck, he'll run in and make all kinds of noise looking to woop another bucks azz. Either way, if there is a buck deer within hearing range and its anywhere near rut, your going to call in something. Deer are like poeple in that when a fight breaks out, people will gather round to watch! Does will come to watch too.
Make sure you rattle when it;s quiet and still so the sound will carry further. When you rattle, you'll think "dam, I"m making a lot of noise" cause it is very loud but if you have ever seen a real fight, theres ALOT of noise associated with it.
It's awsome to call in that big dominant buck when you hear what sounds like a bulldozer rolling through the woods, you can't help but get buck fever!

I didnt even get my tags this year. The crossbow is covered in dust! Havent even opened the gun cabinet since I cleaned them last winter. I've seen more deer this year than I have in years! Go figure.

I hear alot of folks talkin about crossbows....in Oklahoma it's only legal to use a crossbow if your handycapped in one arm to where you can't pull a compound or long bow. Like if i had a broken arm in a cast i could go out with a crossbow as long as i was wearing the cast.
