Decent caliber, not for long shots, big canyons

Not much of a long range elk rifle, but has plenty of knockdown, and shoots flat enough out to say 250 yards, maybe even 300 but really drops like a rock beyond that. Alot of guys swear by this caliber, but not really my favorite. If you're within 200 yards most all the time you're in good shape really. My buddy has an "ott six" and swears it's the best caliber ever built, lol. Sounds like a good deal from your friend though. Pretty good all around caliber, but NOT a long range rifle.

(sorry marc! i'm not trying to steal this one from you, just puttin my 2 cents in!!!)

How much green do ya want to spend??? Leupold has ALWAYS treated me well, but if money was no object, Swarovski 30 mm all the way. Course I don't have one.

Burris is a quality glass as well, and since you appear to be just getting into it, Leupold or Burris are both quality choices for that rifle and what you're doing with it! I know, I'm a big mouth when it comes to guns, I can't help it!!!

OHHHH...you got me there...if money was no object, sworovski, lieka, or zieze would be my first chioce...and zieze's cheaper modles SUCK..it has to be top of the line to be worth a dand with them....

i know i spelled zieze..or ziese....or however you spell it by the way...

IMO the average guy doenst NEED better than a good burres or luepold scope...I will take 600 yard shots...i practice them, hand load for them, and pack a burres signature series scope for the job..your average hunter doesnt do this, because he wont attempt that shot...

I have used Leupold for years and drug them things through some horrible storms, beat the heck out of them and they have never, ever let me down. I have not owned a Burris, but I know they are quality as well, and have heard nothing but good about them. There is no reason you should spend $1k on a scope when these other brands will do a great job for you no matter what you use them for. Even the lower end Burris/Leupold would do the job for you!
