[quote=*******;33959. There is no reason you should spend $1k on a scope when these other brands will do a great job for you no matter what you use them for. Even the lower end Burris/Leupold would do the job for you![/QUOTE]heck, i spent 650 bucks at a HUGE discount on my burres signature series....course...it does look like dusk lighting at midnight with no moon... ......and it isnt a standard 3-9....cause who wants to take 500 plus yard shots on 9 power

The Burris and Leupold both get up there pretty pricey, close to $1k and they hold their own against most anybody IMO, but the lower end ones are pretty decent glass too. If he put one of them lower end Burris or Leupolds on they would work just fine for him IMHO. I spent $450 on my last Leupold and thought the wife was going to have a come apart, that is, until I showed her the scope I REALLY wanted. I'd love to get a Weatherby 30/378 action, with a Christensen arms bull carbon fiber barrel with muzzle break, and Swarovski 30mm 6x18x50 long range scope for elk. Load it with 180 grain ballistic tips and extend my range a little bit.

I am certainly a fan of the Leupold, Burris, Zeiss and Swaro scopes, especially for big boomers. For a reasonable price I put a Nikon on my Ruger 77 stainless synthetic 06' and it works perfectly... Very bright in low light conditions and holds zero very well... The only issue I've found with the Nikon is limited reticles... Basically here in AZ when hunting there aren't that many long range "opportunities" (at least for elk) and the 30-06 is a very good round for most North American hunting... Loaded with 150 grainers for white tail you'de be approaching 3000 fps (2900 plus) which shoots very flat out to about 250 yds.. I've found that the Nikon scope holds up very well and provides excellent low light viewing and very reasonable prices... The Buckmaster is pretty much a 200 - 350 dollar scope but is a 40mm objective... From there you can go to the Titanium series which is offered in 44mm (and VERY durable) for upwards of 600 dollars.. After that it is the Monarch series which offer the 50mm objective but will set you back up to 750 dollars... I think at that price point I would be looking at Leupolds myself... Best of luck in your decision... Ken.... |
